Exclamation Just Starting up business, help with quality please!!

Hi Everyone,

I am currently starting up a baby clothing printing company and the images I use are mainly one or two colours. I have imported the garments and had my own labels inserted etc.

My current set-up is a heat press, epson printer with a CiSS bulk ink system (I believe it is just using standard inks), and with the press I am using KISSCUT self-weeding transfer paper.

The process I do is basically just the KISSCUT Instructions, I press it for 7 seconds at 180C and then re-press for 60seconds and done!

At the moment with KISSCUT paper the transfer self-weeding onto the garments is perfect! BUT when we actually put the garment on a baby and the image gets wet, say from drooling, the image runs with the wetness and when in the wash it fades almost completely.

I am really looking for some advice on what transfer paper would be best, what inks would be best for quality and durability and also where I can buy these from. Unfortuntely I don't have a budget for a cutter at the moment and that is why I love the KISSCUT self weeding process but at the end of the day quality does matter if I want to start a business, is a cutter needed, should I make a budget for it?

Many thanks in advance for your help!!!

Hiya,

Congratulations Spoiltrotten on starting your new company. I can imagine how it feels at the moment with starting a t-shirt printing business.

I started mine about a month ago and it's prooving to be a bumpy road.
Well at least we've got things like this forum where we can get a bit of advise.

I have looked at the KISSCUT website printing process and its quite similar to what I do.

I'm not sure whether this process is possible to print on dark garments.

Anyway, for a better durable quality print I would recommend INKJET LIGHT also known as INKJET 1000 for light coloured garments.

It's a special paper that you can print on similar to what you do with KISSCUT.
I get them from www.xpres.co.uk

Make sure your Epson Printer uses GENUINE Epson Inkjet Catridges.

When you send the image to print, make sure you print in MIRROR Image. For best results use photo options in your printer driver via your PC control panel.

Pre-heat garment for 5 seconds

Position the printed paper face down on garment and set your heat press to Heavy Pressure.

Cover with Silicon Paper

Press at 175°C for 15 seconds

NB: Peel off transfer immediately while hot

No need to pre-heat garment for 60 seconds

Immediately after removing the transfer, stretch garment both directions for a softer feel.

The colour will never run and it will last longer

Hope this helps.

We use Inkjet 1000 on light coloured garments and Tote bags and the quality is great - especially if you trim the excess transfer around the image. We've also tried non Epson inks without a problem. Great given the cost difference :-)
