Default What would be the best paper for our advertising leaflets/flyers?

I was wondering if anyone knows the best paper for printing advertising leaflets on?

The ones we get through the door that advertise Pizza and fast food shops are what I'm thinking of.

Photo paper is ridiculously expensive to print 1000 A5 leaflets on, but plain copier paper just looks cheap and unprofessional (imo).

I'm thinking of something that is a bit shiny and about the same weight (or maybe a little heavier) than copier paper but I don't really know what I'm looking for?

Any advice please?
thank you

hey harison,

have a printer do these for you, it's a lot cheaper. You can have them done on a digital printer, so no minimum. If you are looking for something like a brochure, you would want 100lb gloss book paper. If you are looking for something like a postcard ask for 10-12 point cover stock. If you are in California I can give you some info on a printer with great prices.

He's in the UK.

I agree though. Using a professional printer is cheaper than using your printer ink.

Thanks for the advice, it seems a bit strange to use another printer, but you have to be practical so I will do that I think. I'll go and check it out now.

Thank You

For the best source in pricing printers, I would go to the book/magazine store and browse Art or Photoshop related magazines. They will have advertisements from printers with the prices they charge for leaflets. You should be able to order online and have it shipped to wherever you need them.

As mentioned harrison, i would get them done via a printers, and yes it makes scence and is cost saving your end.
Most company printers ect use special printers that can throw out something like 40 pages a min, and use digital printers which are way out of region in the money issue, think like the best lazers and so on.
I have my cards done and flyers ect by printers even thoe i have a spare lazer printer but beleave me to fill the cart in it with what i call gold dust lol is very expensive.
Get a local printers and shop around for some prices, but you will get them cheap

Thanks. You're right, it does make sense, because the cost of the 135gsm gloss paper is more expensive than it would cost me to print them.

I think I understand what you're saying. That it's the equipment that they have that means they are able to do it so cheaply.

I've just been looking around and the cheapest quote I've got is around £63 ($126) for 1000 A5 flyers, yet the cheapest quote for the 135gsm gloss paper alone is £75.

So I guess I'll get someone else to do it.

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks mate, I just realised I was thinking of 100 sheets of A4 135gsm and if it was A5 then the price would be halved. So it would actually be £37.60 but if you add in the cost of ink and electric and labour time, then your price is still cheaper.

My baby is sick at the moment so it's hard to concentrate but thanks for the link, I'll look at it as soon as I get the baby to sleep.

cheers mate

Thanks again Joe, £45 is a great price & I think I'll go with that. I appreciate the link. Finally got the little guy to sleep! So I'll be up for several hours now trying to design the leaflet and I'll put my order in with them as soon as I've finished it!

Really appreciate all the advice

Sonja
