Hi all. I'm interested to see what others are doing to increase your business in the UK. Is it all word of mouth, internet based or passing trade?

Do you advertise? If so, what mediums have you found to be the best response? Newspapes, magazines, internet, Ebay?

I'm asking cos we're at the stage where we are proficient in what we do (Subli, Vinyl & Xfer printing). We have a regular income but would like to start increasing sales. Just looking for other ideas

Hi Nigel. EBay UK used to be a good method of selling, but the fees are just too high on there now. With typically only one tee in ten selling on there, you'd struggle to make a profit.

The Internet is in essence a massive filing cabinet. Unless you are prepared to spend investment on marketing your site, it too can yield poor results. I have marketed successfully using specialist magazines, but trade shows and special events have consistently proved most successful for me.

Nigel, if you have time to invest, I suggest reading Seth Godin. Other than his books, his blog is very popular, and I've benefitted from a few of his free e-books too. He constantly challenges any pre-existing notions of "marketing" we might have.
