Default Uh... im confused with the whole tag thing

Hey, im Jebus. Im trying to start my shirt business within a few weeks, im reallypumped about it, my dads helping, hes an accountant and so yeah... im really confuzzled about the whole tag thing. Iv been looking around and i dont really get what sorta tag im ment to put on, or anything. Should I put on a cardboard thingy one with my company name on it, or something like that? I know it sounds stupid, but even tho its so small, the tag bit has gotten me really confused.

Jebus

There are labels - they're usually made of cloth, and can be found at the neck or at the side seam.

And there are hang tags - that's the small piece of cardboard/ thick paper you find strung through most retail clothing.

I think hang tags are optional, but here's some useful discussions:
what to put on hang tags?
To Tag or Not to Tag Every Single Shirt?

As for labels, there are certain regulations involved:
My label contents - is everything correct? - a post detailing what goes on a label
Order of label requirements and Country of Origin specifics?

If the whole thing is too confusing you can always sidestep it. They're optional extras, so you could stick with the original manufacturer's tags until you know what you want to be doing instead.

If your selling the t-shirt commercially, it has to have a tag. As Lewis said, you can focus on other things besides the tag while you are getting started and leave the original one that came with the shirt there.

Some people like to replace the original tag that came with the shirt with one of their own to brand their product and make it stand out from the competition. It makes is seem like your selling an XYZ company brand named shirt, as opposed to selling a Hane's t-shirt with an XYZ company design on it.

As indicated, if you do want to use your own tag and you plan on selling them, there are certain requirements that the tag must have as per government regulations.

1. company contact info or RN number
2. name of country shirt was made in
3. what the product is made out of
4. laundering instructions.

(I'm pretty sure that's all.)
