Default Unable to find specialty finishing chemicals - where to buy abraisives, disharge, enzymes, potassium sprays?

Hey all,
I currently cut and sew, embellish, and finish all of my products in house and would like to also do specialty dyeing and finishing as weel. For example I would like to deal with abraisives, disharge, enzymes, potassium sprays.....Basically all of the proper chemicals and dyes to have my own wash and dye operation. I currently have the dyes, discharge, washers, dryers, and vats. Howeverver, I can't for the life of me find a supplier for the other chemicals.. To be honest Im not even sure how to go about looking for the products or what else is out there and what it does.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated,

Cory

Cory,

Can't you call Dharma or that other place you mentioned?
If you bought some stuff at one of those places, or, even another place, wouldn't they help you out on this?
I don't understand fully what you are going for, it's over my head, but even though I know Dharma doesn't handle potassium spray, they may know where you can get it, and anything else that you may need.

Good luck on that, I hope that you find it.

Randy

Randy,

I tried Dharma and the rep said thet they are designed more so for the average hobbyist and home dyers. He had no suggestions as to whom to get the chemicals from. The other company whom is located in India, deals with so many things at once it's kind of concerning because I feel they may be trying to do it "all". They even do carmel color and food enzymes for the food industry as well as deals with paper products and bug sprays..... On top of that I contacted them by phone and email and never had a reply. So I'm stuck trying to find these products without really knowing the names. A lot of companies will use terms that they have created for marketing purposes. For instance, Affliction uses the term "Lava Wash" which is obviously not the real term.

I'm in the process of taking terms from www.washink.com and going to see if I can't pin point a site. So far it's bringing up nothing but companies from India. So that tells me these products may be heavily dominated over seas and it may be hard to find a supplier here in the US. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get chemicals into the US nor do I see the prices being reasonable. I may see if I can't figure out some "soft" "non-threatening" questions I can ask a dye and wash house to maybe get a chemical or company name out of them in regards to the products they use. I could always say I'm inquiring before obtaining services from them due to a potential customer with allergic reactions to certain chemicals?????

I wonder if the problem is the extremely hazardous nature of these chemicals. It may be that you have to be registered somewhere as a specific type of business to even be able to purchase these type of materials.

That sure could be Rodney, it makes sense, and I know that Dharma 'usually' mentions how it may be *insert your poison here*, so that might be the case.
Surely someone here knows for sure though, I don't even want to do that stuff, but I am sure wondering why that can't be found so easy.

Thanks for the explanation Cory, and good luck with your search, that is, if it's not pison (sic)!

Randy

a civilian isnt able to buy chemicals like these unless they are buyers for a chemical lab. a friend of mine owns a chem lab that has chemists create formulas of the mentioned goodies and sells them to dye houses

my friend sells dyes silicones and other things but even he doesnt deal with potassium, the reason he gave me is that potassium is too unstable.

so... if a chemical labs owner makes a choice to NOt certain chemicals and elements, dont think ull b able to just walk into a store n buy these things.
