Hello everyone. I have a question that I need help in. I just bought some shirts and I took the labels off and pressed my own tagless lables on them with a brand I made up. I was told that It has to have the RN#. I have no idea what an RN# is. How do I go about getting one? Can I use the RN# the shirt came with and ad it to my tagless labels, that way the shirts still have this RN# that needs to bee on shirts? I'm so lost here. Any help would be great. Thanks
The RN tells anyone who is checking up on you who is responsible for making the shirts, basically. It can generally be found at the bottom of the back of the tag, under the care instructions (it'll say RN and be followed by a five or six digit number). Locate the RN on the original labels, and print it on your new ones (that is, yes, you can just use the original RN).
Given that you clearly haven't read the labelling laws, you might want to look over them in general too - it's possible you've overlooked other requirements (although the RN is the easiest to overlook, so you might be otherwise fine).
Is there any way you can find where a clothing line gets their stuff made with the RN#? For instance, I would like to know which factory in Mexico makes clothing for Marc Ecko.
Ok, just for clarification is the RN# only applicable for U.S. based companies? I'm in Canada and I know I can get an CA#, but I can't find and info on an RN# on the Canadian Gov website. Simply stated, can my Canadian-based company apply for an RN#? Is it even neccessary?
Also, If I keep the manufacturers tag on and place mine over theirs does this mean I don't have to inlcude niether an RN, CA or company address?

Yes and no. The RN is only for US companies, but the implications are there if you plan on selling to the US.

When looking for information on US law it's generally best to look at US government websites.

Not at all if you're selling outside of the US. Useful if you're selling in the US, but not necessary even then. An RN and a CA are basically the same thing - US and Canadian equivalents.

In the US the tag you are leaving would take care of those requirements, so no you wouldn't need to include the information. In Canada I'm not sure.
