Default Does anyone dye any of their own shirts?

I have a business that I embroider on dog tank tops mainly, and I have found a great company to buy these shirts from. Only problem, they don't offer every color. I have looked and even ordered from other companies with a larger selection, but there quality isn't nearly as good. So I am not interested in going anywhere else. I have tried to dye the tanks myself, and they turned out well. But I used Rit dye that I bought from Wal-Mart. I need to know if anyone has dye that they have used, and would recommend, and that I could get in a little larger quantities.

If I remember correctly Rit is a crappy all-purpose washing machine dye. It will probably fade quite a bit. You want something professional. I notice Dharma Trading (who often come up, especially for this kind of thing) sell Procion, so you might want to look into them and see what product range they recommend you.

The one advantage of cheap "throw everything at the wall" dyes is that you don't need to use PFD blanks because they can dye both polyester and cotton. Perhaps your customers would like contrast stitching though?

It certainly will be if custom dyeing starts being the next big trend

Joking aside, you'll know how it looks after you do some samples, but I think it could look fine. Plus this assumes your blanks use polyester thread and cotton material - they may actually use cotton for both for example.

(I don't know much about garment construction, but polyester thread is stronger and I'm guessing therefore more commonly used)

I'm pretty sure it will be fine... like I said I had dyed some with the "wal-mart'' stuff and the top stitching in it actually dyed pretty well, the bottom (inside of the shirt) you could definately see a difference. So I think if I can get a good dye.... I hope, anyways, it will turn out well. There aren't many "good" companies constructing dog clothes right now.... so I don't have much choice....

Thanks for all your help!

Dharma Trading also sells a doggy T that dyes up great.
