Default Site Launching, best way to announce it to designers?

Hey guys,

We're launching our website in 2 1/2 weeks and have been doing a lot of pre-launch marketing already...trying to contact t-shirt blogs, designers, etc...so everyone can get excited when we go live with our first competition.

But I want to make sure we're covering as many bases as we can. We're commenting on blogs, emailing the blog owners directly, hitting up tee design spots like Emptees and Rumplo...but it feels like we could do more. Any of you guys have some thoughts on how we can reach more designers?

Thanks!

Jud "El Presidente"

Are you hitting all of the contest sites, like shirt.woot, uneetee, teefury, DBH, etc. and posting comments in their various forums with your site name in your signature?

You know, I thought about that...but isn't that kinda a dicky move? I know I sure would hate it if a competitor went tromping around my site trying to "steal my designers".

It's no different than having it in your signature on here. As long as they don't object to it, then go for it.

Yeah but...t-shirtforums isn't a direct competitor, it's a place for people to talk about their t-shirt sites, companies, clothing lines, etc.

threadless, DBH, uneetee, etc are my direct competition (although I'd like to think we can all live together in harmony lol).

It would be like standing outside of Walmart with a sign advertising Target...I dunno that just doesn't feel right. Anyone else have an opinion or other ideas?

OK, then, still go to these sites, except obtain artists email addresses/websites instead. Then send them all an email invitation to visit and submit to your site. Same concept as my original post, just harder work.

P.S You'll find that most of the artists posting in the various contest sites have their personal site/store in their signature. Isn't that competing directly with the site too?

I think there's a difference between going to a "competitor" site and posting relevant content and then simply having your site URL in your signature and going to their site and actively recruiting people to come to yours. If you're posting good, quality content and it inspires someone to check out the site you have in your signature, I don't see how you're doing anything wrong. If, however, you're clearly only there to poach their site visitors and to spam the site with links to your site, that's a different story.

Yeah you know I didn't think of it that way! I've been posting on Emptees because man the designs those folks put up there...there's crazy talent I tell ya. But I guess your right...my primary focus after all is connecting with the designer, not so much promoting my site.

I reckon I have some posts to make! thanks for your advice
