Any suggestions as to which is more affordable in bulk quantities - screen printing or vinyl?
I am trying to start up a little t-shirt company, and was wondering if anyone has got any advice. I will be producing t-shirts in large quantities. Some have suggested silk screen, other have suggested a vinyl press on. Any suggestions as to which is more affordable and easier to get acces to? As well are there any shops which can print ai files multiple color, and multiple quantity?

In my opinion if you are printing higher volumes, silk screen would be the way to go. It is more professional looking than vinyl heat transfers. The transfers are rigid, intrusive, and cheap looking. Transfers would be an option if you were only printing a few shirts and weren't so concerned about the quality of them. I think also you'll find that screen printing at higher volumes is more cost effective as well. This all depends on what higher volumes are. Are you talking 24 pieces, 48 pieces, 72 or 144, or 500? You should be able to find shops all over the place that offer both.

For large quantities, screen printing is the only way to go. Thermo Film vinyl application shouldn't be used to create shirts that you are selling anyway, ever.

I am most interested in screen printing anyway. Is there any recomendations as far as where to get this done in multiple colour jobs? And to add to that, where can I buy wholesale t-shirts to print on in various style and color?

If you're looking for a screen printer, probably best to post up in the "referrals and recommendations" section. You can provide shirts to screen printers, but much of the time it is more cost effective to tell a printer what kind of garment you want, then let them sell you the print and the shirt as the final product...

You could read through and check out a few of the past companies that have been recommended, or you could start a new thread there with the specifics of your request and you'll get a few leads.

As Dan said above, it may be best to talk with a screen printer to let them know what you're looking for. They can help get you samples of different blank garments. But most screen printers provide both (the blanks from various brands/manufacturers and the printing on the blanks). Some screen printers may not accept customer supplied garments.
