Discuss the fun task of marketing a t-shirt shop. Where to advertise, local marketing tips, word of mouth, press releases, search engine marketing, keyword advertising, magazines, etc.
As a result of my T-shirt site, I have a GX-24 vinyl cutter and about 10 rolls of various colored sign vinyl sitting around. I figured it would be the perfect opportunity to start doing vinyl decals, signs, banners, etc. for people and businesses both online and in my area (unrelated to the shirt site).
Problem is, I have no idea how to market this to people. Do I go around and ask businesses if they need lettering on their windows and vehicles? Do I bring examples with me?
Eventually I'd like to get a large format printer and expand to vehicle wraps, posters, large format images, etc., and add screen printing and embroidery, but that's down the road a bit. For now, if I can get a steady flow of vinyl customers that would be great.

Absolutley, market the hell out of your buisness, that how i started when i was doing vinyl. Went to every single liquor store, furniture store, plumbing buisnesses etc...
For vehicle graphics and decals i went to a couple car shows and built clientle there.
I know of a couple people (friends) that have there expensive vinyl cutters and heat presses just sitting in there garage making no money. There excuse is theres too much competition, and i tell them that it wasn't a problem for me. I moved on and sold my 2 vinyl cutters and heat presses, thank's to this economic crisis a lot of my customers stoped ordering(NO ORDERS AT ALL). I moved on to screen printing and already making$$$. Goodluck
Thanks, looks like I might go door-to-door and drop off fliers wherever I can.
Any more suggestion/advice anyone? Anyone else have experience doing this? I'm not much of a salesman, lol. Hopefully I can provide something of value that these businesses need.

Everyone you talk to can potentially get you sales. If you are a person that they like and you arm them with information, they will probably refer anyone looking for that kind of work to you. Leave behinds/ brochures/ business cards are all great tools.
