Wink Power Point

I will be making some cold calls starting this week. The website is under construction and plan on sending a power point presentation w/ the designs and pricing breakdown?

Does anyone think this is a bad or good idea?

I think it's a good idea to send out some sort of presentation, but flash may be a better way to go.
It's more likely that virus scanners and junk mail filters will omit your power point presentation because of the fact that it is commonly used to embed viruses in.
If your website is under construction, you may want to wait until it nears being complete before sending potential customers it's way...otherwise your work of getting them to notice you on the spot may be for nothing...

Thanks for the help..... Probably should wait till the website is done..

What's the best way to create flash. Is it something that i have to have my website guy make for me or can I do it myself?

I toyed around with Flash a little back in the day, and got the hang of it pretty quickly. I guess it depends on what kind of expertise you have with graphics programs, because it is very similar. You may be able to have your web guy do it, not all web people know how to program with it, but it seems that it is fairly popular enough.
Just to get some knowledge on your own, try picking up a used book or go to the library and see if you can't find one of the "Flash for Dummies" or similar books.

PowerPoint is never a good idea, I am always very suspicious of emails with attachments from people I do know, never mind cold callers!

I like the concept, it is a bit different but spam and cold calling will make it more likely that it won't get viewed. Flash is also a carrier of worm type virus' so unfortunately that doesn't get you around it.

Even having it set up on your web server and referring people to it will stop lots of people looking but might be worth a shot (your website really should be up and running first, even if it is just a basic home page with your contact details)

If you have a CD/DVD burner perhaps another way, although a little dearer might be to produce your own cd with the same presentation but self booting, create a "folder" to hold it in and send it to them (or if they are local drop one in, most likely it won't be the person you need to speak to but is a good way to check out the place and get your foot in the door!)

Thanks again for all of the suggestions. The company is called Stove Monkeys and we produce trendy culinary related t-shirts for Chefs and Foodies. Our main target market are culinary students. We will be "cold calling" the retail shops of culinary schools. It seems from the replies that cold calls may not be the way to approach it. Any suggestions?

Why a powerpoint?

Send some actual samples. That will work much better than what any electronic presentation would get close to.

Good luck!
