Default Different brands for different markets?

When starting a range of garments is it best to have different brand names for different age groups? Example one brand for 4-12 year olds, one for teens and another for 20+ or just have one universal brand name for all.
Whichever way I go the brand name/names will be different to my company name.

Default Re: Brands

I'd say it really depends on your target market. For instance my brand name is SlightlySick, which I don't foresee marketing to 4 to 12 year olds, and is left off my home page site, but nonetheless stipulate that its a division of my primary company.

It makes sense to market different names to different age groups. Most teenagers would not want to be associated with the same brand that their pre-teen sibling wears nor what their dad wears. It would also help in the marketing and building the different brands to be separate from each other. The downside is it's a lot more work.
