Discuss the fun task of marketing a t-shirt shop. Where to advertise, link building, word of mouth, press releases, search engine marketing, keyword advertising, magazines, etc.
"After you get inspired with a great T-shirt idea, figure out [what] your target market [is]," Blackwell says. "Then follow up that great idea with a practical marketing plan to get your shirts in front of [that market]. The best idea in the world will sit on the shelf if no one knows it's out there."
Ok guys (and gals) while reading an article in Entrepreneur on the t-shirt biz I came across this bit of info...which is what led me to this amazing site! I think this statement by Mr. Blackwell himself says it all, we all have what we think are great ideas, we are all working to find our target markets, but what about the follow up? Has anyone yet figured out a "practical marketing plan" (not to mention fool proof )
to get in front of their target? This after all is the answer to all of our dreams! Once they know were here we're on our way!
ANY great words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated, and maybe if I could tear myself away from this site I could sell a few more of my awesome tees (lol) I'm sure the answer lies somewhere on here but I will admit I am way too ADD to look for it.
P.S. what do you think the chances are that I hear from Mr. B himself?
My fingers are crossed... A
Re: where o where is my "practical marketing plan"?
I'm sure lots of members have figured out a "practical marketing plan", but the problem is that the markets vary greatly, and what works for one market probably won't work for another one.
That's the tricky part. You have to know your market.
The best thing to do would be to learn practical marketing strategies that you can apply to your market. Proven things that are effective. Begin by searching this forum. There is great information here.

Since you're going to be here, anyway, a great place to start would be by clicking the "search by popular keyword tags" link just above the big chat button. Then in the search box type "marketing". You will get lots of info about marketing that has been discussed on the site.

No need to cross your fingers, I think the chances are extremely high.
Re: where o where is my "practical marketing plan"?
Filling in a template marketing plan is not going to help you much unless you understand some basic marketing principles, and like Greg said, you understand your market (at least a little).
While it's not "marketing for dummies", it does clearly outline some basic marketing principles and strategies, with lots of examples. I found it fairly easy to understand and I'm using it to help write my own (long overdue) marketing plan.
It's probably at your local library, so check it out sometime.

You can find LOTS of marketing tips here in the forums by doing a tag search for marketing (or using the search box at the top to search for marketing or advertising info):
You may need to curtail your ADD somehow so that you can take advantage of the great information people have taken time out of their busy days to post here
You can use those tips to then formulate your overall marketing plan.
I don't think you'll find a "quick and easy" marketing plan that you can just download, apply to your business, and then have success. Marketing plans don't work that way
It will take some research/time/work to figure out your OWN specific market, read through the different marketing ideas that people have shared here, figure out which ones might work for you, and come up with a UNIQUE marketing plan that will fit YOUR business.

If so, I might go snag one from Amazon.
Yup, I'd buy it. But I'd probably try to snag it on Ebay, considering that it's a few years old it's probably pretty cheap if you can find it there.
Even considering the age, the only outdated section of the book was the one having to do with ecommerce (obviously), but since that section was pretty small it's not like you're missing much.
