Default is there a general percentage for marketing?

I'm planning out my marketing dollar for my winter line. I'm doing a lot of research but is there a general rule of thumb to use say you have 100,000 to use what percentage is a generally used for marketing? I know it vary's case by case but it seems like there should be a "general" consensus at least for bigger company's.

Depends on what marketing you wanna do and how well you know your market. If you have a smaller niche market than you can spend less on marketing and more on development. There is really no set rule, also depending on how long you have been established factors in as well. There are many things , but it does not make sense to spend any money on advertising unless it all comes back.

I did a good amount of read up on it today. Seems like 10% of annual revenue is standard unless your in the process of building something from the ground up. Still would like to get some peeps in the clothing industry's opinions.
