Default yellowpages.com

Who is paying for a listing on yellowpages.com? I feel a fool for signing up. It's real expensive and after signing up I realized I had gotten a free listing like a year ago. I'm not getting any orders from the listing and am very unhappy with it. Not only is it real expensive, i'm not at the top of the listing for 'philadelphia screen printing' like the rep said I would, with my banner, and also the 'about us' was written terribly, the products available is incorrect as well. I have submitted revisions weeks ago as well as desired corrections, and they have not been made. I have been requesting a copy of the contract that I signed so that I can review it before I demand to cancel auto payment for the listing via my credit card company. The rep that met with me and told me how much it would help does not return emails. I wanted to review the contract before I end up calling her, but I guess I don't have that option unless I can find a physical copy of the contract, if I even have one.
Anyone else have results or lack of results with a paid yellowpages.com ad?

yellow pages can shove it....... some how i place an ad a few years back that was the bare minimum..but then i was getting bills for 200 a month because somehow i signed up for the internet option and some other b.s.

i would stay away from them and any other high price advertising b.s. out there

Everyone that I have spoked to about Yellowpages is also upset with the lack of response (even people that have businesses other than t-shirts).

How come you did not get a copy of the contract or make a photocopy before the salesperson left???

What is the saying? "A fool and his money are soon parted" Not that you are a fool. I am sure you thought you were making the right decision at the time. Wow thousands will see my ad.. Well first of all the book sits closed most of the time. And thousands of people are not the people you want to see you ads. Today I believe more people use the internt unless they need a plummer. This is a great lesson for others so it is almost like a public service announcement. Marketing our business is not the easyiest thing to do. Do I use this or do I do that? If you were to take 10 business in your area (lesson for all of you) and call them and ask how their ads do in phone books in bringing in customers I wonder what the answer will be?

Yeah, the Yellow Pages-both online and real world-are successful for SOME businesses, but very few, and the few that do make it work most likely have other, more effective methods of marketing as well.

For most of us, YP is just too expensive, and as Lou said, you don't necessarily want a TON of peole to see your ad, it's more about the RIGHT people seeing your ad.

Have you ever heard the saying "80% of our business comes from 20% of our customers?" Never have more honest words been spoken.

at the time i was doing home renovation/design/build work...... i received 1 b.s. call from the ad.... .... then they tried to re-new my ad with my approval since looking in the contract it said something about "autorenew if you dont cancel by the new run" or something like that.......

all in all, i dont sign anything anymore...... unless i ask alot of questions and know where my money is going................

at the time i placed to ad, i was pressing for work so i figured i would try that approach...... but not really worth it......

might be better to tweek your website and get hits/visits from online sources

I must have a copy of the contract somewhere. My shop is just not very organized.

And I have good SEO on my site. If you google 'Philadelphia screen printing' I'm on the first page. I get a lot of order interest via that.

i have a phyical shop that i sell signs and t-shirts and banners at..
I have ads in the yellowpages book and the att phone book..
i get the yellow pages.com ad free with my yellow pages ad
We actually get alot of calls and business from them.. as we ask each new customer where they got our name and info from we track it that way and write it on the invoice..
It helps that my shop name starts with an A that puts us at the front.. and the ad's we designed for the hard copy are appealing...
but we did both books last year.. and are again this year..

Its not cheap.. We pay about 400-500 monthly for all the ads
word of mouth is still the best advertising around.. but in my business every little bit helps..
Its all gonna depend on what type of business you have.. and your area.. im sure
