Firstly, Rodney, I hope that this post is OK and doesn't break any rules?
I've just had a viral-game put together for my business and wanted to share it with you in case anyone wanted to do this themselves, or wondered how they worked.
The URL for the game is here: arabellamiller.com/game.php
Target Audience
It has quite a general audience - something that kids would be able to play but that adults would like too.
Objectives
Build brand awareness - my tees have fairly distinctive designs and there are none similar within the UK organic t-shirt niche market, so the game had to showcase some of the tee designs. More generally it also had to reflect the associated brand values of fun, quirkyness.
Costs:I managed to get a contact who was just starting out making games specifically for businesses - it has cost me a lot less than an ad in a mag and has a considerably longer lifespan.
Results: it's too early to say what the longterm results will be - but there's been a jump in traffic to my site and a rise in newsletter sign ups.
Advice - I would recommend a viral game but it's vital that you have someone with experience in marketing design it. This is because you need to have "stickyness" built in and have a longer term plan for it e.g. I can add to this game as funds permit or can theme it - Santa Hats anyone? You also need to ensure that it reflects your brand. You need to think about how it will be promoted and who to?
I haver linked this game to a competition which is one way to do it - you could also offer discounts, have a monthly draw etc...
(NB if you are running a competition ensure you are clear about any rules and legalities!)
I'll post an update at the end of the month.
