Discuss the fun task of marketing a t-shirt shop. Where to advertise, local marketing tips, word of mouth, press releases, search engine marketing, keyword advertising, magazines, etc.

Maybe you could start off by sharing yours
I've read that a basic conversion ratio for sites would be 1%. Below that is not so good (depending on the quality of your traffic). I've seen websites with much higher conversion ratios (like 1 in 15 or so).
If you search the forum for conversion, you may find more interesting stats.
my traffic is low as i have just started out, typically 20 - 30 unique visitors a day. god knows where they come from! i have done no marketing, due to my low number of designs. so i'm really wondering, am i 'pissing in the wind'? i'm not looking to conquer the world, just wondering how much effort to make.
i heard the 1% conversion ratio before, but dont really know how you judge the quality of your traffic?

If you're getting random visitors from a myspace page or basically any "untargetted" traffic, then it won't convert as well as say an ad in a targeted newsletter or website or a search engine referral where a person types in something like "odd t-shirts" and finds your site (when they are looking for something specific that you have on your site, that's a higher quality visitor).

You should be using Google Analytics, or some other type of free tracker to make sure you know where the visitors are coming from.
