Default Should You Promote Site Before Or After It Goes Live?

I'm planning to launch my site within 10 days. I have 3 great designs. One of which I did a test run of 40 shirts. The other 2 designs will be up, but on a pre order basis to get a feel of which direction to take. I will knock off $5 for pre order's to entice customers to purchase and will ship within 2 weeks.

Also, since the date is approaching, is it a good idea to promote the site? The site is still being worked on and has a splash page "Coming Soon", should I start getting the name out there now or wait until the site goes live?

I guess I have 2 question. Llollool thanks

Yeah, you actually should have started a month ago. Promotion is not like flicking an on switch. It takes time to spread.

I only see one question. But on your pre-orders comment; you won't get a good feel for how well the shirt will do. People don't pre-order on websites. Especially new ones. And especially if they have to provide their credit card.

I tend to disagree with pre orders. I pre order some times with sneakers. Anyway, would it be best to put "Coming Soon" for the other designs?

OK, we'll agree to disagree. To cover those like me who would never pre-order on a new website, I recommend you also include a "Notify me when this product is available" option. That way you don't waste a visitor who may not want to pre-order and may never remember to visit your site again.

minimum have a sign up for news spot on the splash page. Also, pre-orders to me are more for established brands since people know they will deliver quality. Also though why not you aren't turning away customers with it and it shows potential customers you are going to be growing.

Some people generate buzz and feedback prior to launch on Facebook or other networking sites, try that.

I have been trying to pre advertise locally and on twitter now for about 8 weeks. I'm fixing to go live within two weeks, but I thinks its good to try to advertise before you go live.

its better to spread the information in your site before it goes live so that visitors will look forward when you are going to go live.

Ye, like what a lot of people have said I think you should definitely promoting the life out of it now...have info on your site and not a coming soon...start to ramp up the hype machine, create a "buzz"...I've been building up to our launch for (an exhausting) 3 months or so but we are nicely primed to hit the ground running (or I really hope so anyway)..Get onto twitter and get tweeting, grow your fanpage and get working on your back links etc so that you give yourself the best chance come launch day..

Regarding discounts I too think that people might be reluctant to pay for something that they can't see but obviously would still like a discount. What we are doing is to give discount codes to those who leave a comment on our facebook page (this will also serve to help with the "buzz" factor about your launch) - then if they decide to purchase when the product launches they can use the discount..

I'm still just waiting to launch so all of the above may not be of any use but good luck anyway..hope it helps...

Get your links out there as soon as there is actual content on the page, but wait until your site is up before submitting it to google so it gives it better seo. But definitly talk about it, build up some hype, that sort of thing. Get marketing now because it takes a long time
