Discuss the fun task of marketing a t-shirt shop. Where to advertise, local marketing tips, word of mouth, press releases, search engine marketing, keyword advertising, magazines, etc.
In a recent article in the Observer newspaper, John Naughton describe's
the response and dislike of teenagers towards Twitter at the recent web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. The article also includes figures from the New York Times, that states teenagers account for only 14% of MySpace and 9% of Facebook. John Naughton | guardian.co.uk
Obviously no one should dismiss marketing strategies that use twitter and social networking sites. However it does emphasise the need for businesses to clearly identify their core market and understand what works best for that market
good point, however, one of the best things about Twitter is that it is "now" and indexed by Google, so, those searching will have more ways to find your company/shirts/other products...
The other thing to keep in mind is that, while young teens may not be using Twitter as much as their parents, their parents are often the ones footing the bill.
Just a couple thoughts

Personaly, i find Twitter boaring, but for my buisness, i have built relationships with people/companies i would have never known without it. Its yet another avenue to build brand awarness that no small buisness can ignore.
I think twitter offers brands both big and small to interact with people on a much more personal level.. Because you are pretty much txting someone. So you can't always use a long winded blog or email full of business jargon so the beauty of it to me is that it's short and quick and it gives people a chance to really interact and see that there is a person behind the brand.

I'm still undecided whether twitter will be good for biz - but I too have seen great Google listings as a result... Google is even creating results from hashtags.
Yea, I dont have many followers (being around for 3 days and all) but even if my followers dont improve dramatically, the benefits of google indexing it is too good to miss
I have seen ppl asking about effectiveness of Twitter and Facebook a lot. If you think you have your future/potential customer their, Twitter is good choice. if you get them at personal level, good else might not be that affective (spams heavily).
It can't hurt, I use twitter a lot and like it. If nothing else open a twitter account with your name before a competitor hi-jacks it. If you use it great, if not your protected. One thing to consider is Google and Bing have made deals with these folks so if appearing in search results is your thing, the trend in social marketing has been growing steadly
lol something funny, when you type in Fiasco Apparel in google you now get my twitter account but my website hasnt come up yet. Im not worried as my site has only been up since wednesday but thought it was pretty funny nonetheless
