Regina Cassidy of It Takes a Stitch Custom Embroidery, Arlington, Va., takes the premise behind Aesop's old fable "The Tortoise and the Hare" straight to heart. Through its sluggish-yet-determined hard-shelled protagonist, the story taught that a slow and steady pace is what will really win a race, and Cassidy perfectly exemplifies that lesson. She spent hours crafting the "Turtles Out of Water" bathroom set for the 2006 EMB Honors Awards (previously hosted by EMB magazine, which was folded into Impressions in May 2007). Cassidy's perseverance and craftsmanship paid off, and just like the reptile that inspired her initial freestanding design, she finished the race ahead of her competitors, placing first in the Embroidery on Nonwearables category.
