| Re: a review of 8 different custom plastisol transfer screen printers - samples followup This post was so beneficial to me. I have some really cool designs that a couple of store owners have been trying to get me to wholesale to them but I have them done in heat press vinyl and its not as profitable doing them like that and i'm in my infancy stage of screen printing so I was looking for a company to do some of my stock designs. Thanks alot Rodney! | |

| Re: a review of 8 different custom plastisol transfer screen printers - samples followup Rodney,
This thread was a great piece of education for me. I have some questions for you:
1. Have you done any wash tests at all?
2. If so, how many washes have you done and of which transfers?
3. Which transfers have last the longest after washing? (Any follow up pics after washing would be nice to see.)
4. Which ones have not lasted long?
5. For the Rhinestone transfers, did any of the stones fall off after washing?
Thanks!

However, if you are on Linux, for instance, Adobe won't work. Or if you're not trying to shell out that kind of money - it IS expensive -- you might want to look at other options.
Inkscape is free, open-source, and shows promise. If I hadn't already gotten hooked on Illustrator and all the shortcuts, etc, and if I didn't need to work on an industry standard, I'd go with that.
In the end, it's all subjective anyway, so your best bet is to try out different programs (demos) for the one that works best for you personally. But of course you should consider what your industry uses (file format issues), price, how well it flows with other programs, etc.
Good luck! | | | | | | Inkscape is a great program and it works on Linux, Mac, and PC. I too like Adobe stuff better but have been using Inkscape more recently for fun and "It's pretty darn good"!!

| Re: a review of 8 different custom plastisol transfer screen printers - samples followup I love this thread! I used similar process as Rodney by requesting sample packages from the aforementioned companies. In the end, I have narrowed it down two of the companies for myself: Dowling and Transfer Express.
Here is where I need some help and/or thoughts. I am working with 100% cotton. Transfer Express' Groof Proofs (hot splits aren't recommended for cotton by them) when dealing with multi-color (about 5) end up so thick feeling that I am concerned. Have others noticed this? In speaking to them they seem to layer colors so it ends up thick and heavy.
Dowling is cost-wise better and I like the feel better but my wife and I have struggled with customer service some and being new to this we are concerned. Seems like others that have posted on them via search results haven't had that much trouble but I thought I would open it up for any new updates from folks. Anyone have issues with Dowling customer service?
Thanks for any insight. Finally, since I started this long after Rodney I would be REALLY curious if he could answer AdriaticBlue's post on the 24th. Thanks, Rodney.
Once again, thanks, Rodney, for a wonderful post!

| Re: a review of 8 different custom plastisol transfer screen printers - samples followup I believe that wash tests are only an issue with digital, i.e. inkjet or laser, transfers. Plastisol transfers are essentially identical to traditional screenprinting, so unless there is a question whether the ink cured correctly, the print will hold up as long as any traditionally screenprinted shirt.
That assumes, of course, that the pressing was done correctly. I have had to do wash tests on the cold peels I did recently because I was having trouble getting the hang of cold peels. Not all of them were adhering completely and parts of the print were delaminating, so I had to put the samples through several washes to see if there were hidden problems.
I have to admit that I am still having trouble with the cold peels I got from First Edition, but I will post on that subject separately. But to answer your question, from vendor to vendor of plastisol transfers, there should not be an issue that will be revealed by wash tests, which is why Rodney didn't do any. | Quote:
