I was asking in relation to the time frame of the job you did.....

Were you printing on Light or Dark color shirts ? what type of transfer was it ? Hot or Cold peel ? or Both ?

How long was the press time ? was there any ink left on the release paper after you pressed the shirt ?

was it an airbrush multi-color blend type design or spot color ?

just trying to determine how the quality was during the print process and what contributed to your perfect finished job.

any other info/photos you can post would be great too.

thanks.

Increase the temp. and reduce the dwell time. Just grab your test shirt and try them as hot splits. I contacted FE first and asked if the cold peel ink would split. They told me they had done it before but werent going to say no problem shoot for the stars. I have printed enough transfers to just do some trials until I found what I wanted.

WOO HOO! Nice find Jasonda. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to drop them an email right now to find out more.

They have low minimums, they are only a 1-2 day ship away from me, they guarantee their quality. I'm in for a test

Another Update:

First-Edition wins with the speed of delivery of the sample binder They shipped it on Tuesday from Kansas and it reached me in California on Friday by UPS Ground.

Their binder was very helpful and gave me some great background on the company (like the fact that they are the same folks behind the Hix brand heat presses and they've been in the business since about 1970!)

It also impressed me that the family behind the company were one of the earliest supporters for the open sharing of industry information (sort of like what this forum is all about).

I also like the fact that they are very understated, not trying toot their own horn too much They basically invented the hix heat press. I can defintely see why Lou likes them.

Janet also sent me an actual t-shirt pressed with some of their transfers. LOL, the first thing I did was try to stretch it. I think I got the point (or have been brainwashed as to what to look for). I'm happy to say it passed the stretch and scratch test with flying colors

I swear, this press is giving me all kinds of business and marketing ideas. It's hard to sleep

Like I was at the grocery store the other day and a high school student was outside trying to sell "oil change cards" as a fundraiser for some school project. I can easily see getting in touch with the school and having kids sell t-shirts as a fundraiser. It would sell much better, reach a wider audience, and they'd get some good profits from it

Another update:

Already got an email back from the company Jasonda found (KE Motographics in Washington) and they are sending me some samples. Great communication with them so far.

Got an email back from Howard Sportswear and gave them a call. They are sending me a sample pack as well, and Kristan gave me good information about their company. They formulate their own inks, they have a pretty fast turnaround time, their minimum is only 6 sheets.

Man, there's a lot of great choices out there!

Sounds good Rodney. Glad that link was helpful!

Once you get all the samples, are you going to do some tests and take pictures for us?

Hey Rodney, I'm jazzed too! Got my Roland cutter this week and set it up last night. It is totally cool! I also had purchased a used heat press locally and tried my first printed transfer using free samples from the ISS show. It turned out great, but had some cracking in area after washing - but alas, I'm waiting on the iron all, plus plastisol transfers from First Edition.

But there are so many possibilities!

I just finished a batch of screen printed shirts for a soccer team (31 shirts including parents). I'm now going to use the same logo and print vinyl decals for thier vehicles. I'll give a couple away to the coach and team mom, as a thank you for the t-shirt order... and see if I can swing a few more decal orders!

BTW, swung by a local wholesale sign vinyl shop to pick this material up and discovered they sell garment vinyl too. Has anyone heard of Thermoflex Plus - good or bad? Don't know how it compares to the Spectra II, but nice to know I have an emergency supply just minutes away.

Thanks all,
Jim

Of course I'm all about the photos. I'll need to buy a few more sample shirts to use, but I plan to do all sorts of pressing tests and samples and share what I find.

I think I've read about thermoflex here in the forum as a common brand people have used. What local sign shop did you find it in?

Here's a good thread about it: Thermoflex Plus

I got a local coffee shop interested in one of my designs last weekend (just walked in and happened to be wearing the shirt), so I was able to get samples printed by TahoeTamahawk (he's in your area with a DTG printer), and I should be able to go back there this weekend with a pricelist. They were interested in them as staff shirts, but I think they would be a good seller in the store as well. Now I have several ways go get the order done. Either outsourcing DTG, pressing the plastisol transfers I buy from a vendor, or getting them screen printed. There's lots of opportunities out there!

Yes, I was thinking of utlizing Tahoe Tamahawk as well. Sure beats shelling out the dough myself and worrying about keeping my machine busy. As long as I have a happy customer and I can make a little bit too.

Glad to hear the rave reviews on the vinyl. The vinyl place is near Arco arena - Product Sign Supplies 921-3333 . Worked with a gal named Shannon - very helpful, even though the phone was ringing off the wall!

Tell them Jim w/ Burman Promotions sent ya!

Cool, they even have a website (productsignsupplies.com). Nice to know there's someplace local I can go to if a rush job comes up.
