A quick update.

I emailed Janet from first-edition with the contact info Lou gave me and she got right back to me.

I got an email this morning from Diane with Dowling Graphics with info on their sample pack and transfers.

I emailed Transfer Express and they emailed me back within 10 minutes.

I called Versatrans and talked to Marc, their production manager about samples. They have a hot peel transfer that works for all garments.

I also emailed HowardsSportwear and I'm waiting on hearing back from them.

I wish I could find someone local as well. At least on the West Coast so I could cut down on the shipping time after the transfers are printed.

Have you tried contacting Insta? They are based in California.

I got excited there for a second. I hadn't contacted them, but I almost did after I saw your link and read their site. Then I saw:

Minimum orders are $500.00 per order
That's a bit too high of a minimum for me at this point. Their description of the different processes was nice, but all the links on the page that explained it in more detail didn't work

Although, with most of the transfer printers being on the east coast, it might end up being the same amount of time.

Thanks for sharing your experience with both companies! I was at the Long Beach ISS show as well
Hey no problem. But if I can order from them and I am in Mexico, everywhere else should be a breeze. Tara and Rashida are great and will answer your emails.

As for BoothBabes (love that term ) at the ISS that someone mentioned, pretty well the only booth that had 'em was American Apparel, who modelled their company's short shorts.

Saludos!

Actually Rodney, the $ 500 mark is not much to be honest with you. What I mean is that if you are planning on going "BIG" as you said when you started off into Heat Press DIY T-Shirt maker world on your first post.... this is it.

They are basically telling you or Trying to tell you that you need to gang up some designs (a small colection) on a few 12x18 sheets 1-2 colors. Get good quality Off the bat to kick start your brand/collection. This is the way to do it. Not little rinky dinky 24 pc. order (just kiddin' ). Remember, you are a BIG guy.

Now, if you are Joe Pickle that owns a pickle bar and needs some cheapo transfers aka below supervalue quality.... then they (Insta) are not for you.

Personally I strongly advise you to go the High Quality off the bat. Most transfer makers in this sector will run you 100 pcs. as a sample run if you explain that you do have a collection ..... a bigger job in mind. They too like to test the waters before running a BIG job off the bat....so, 100 pc. sample order works out ok for both parties.... expecially with new clients.

Dont look at me. .....we're all booked up till Feb 14th. lol

I don't know if Rodney is talking about stock transfers as much as he want to do custom as I do for my client. I am not going to order $500. worth of tranasfers for a 36 piece order. Also if I was going to order stock transfers that I would use only for testing I would be out of my mind to spend that much I also would be very lonely as my wife would probably leave me for being stupid.. And as far as 24 rinky dink orders I would do those all day my self. This is what puts food on the table for me. ButI am just a little business. I wish I was all booked up.. My main work is tourest stuff and I am gearing up for the season to start in the spring..

I didn't ask these companies for anything specific, just told them I wanted to try out every different type of transfer they offered so I could chose. And neither company mentioned anything about paying for any of the stuff, not even shipping.
I was looking for a good company myself and transfer express is about a 30 minute drive from me.

For Small quantities ( 36 shirts) use your Vinyl Cutter since most of the SPOT Color transfers art you supply can easily be convert to a CUT file. Good quality Vinyl also looks and feels like High end screen Printed transfers.....for the most part. Thats Why Vinyl Cutters ARE so popular, they are Ideal for Small Quantities etc...

I personally would order transfers for 36 pcs. There are many companies that do a great job and are reasonably priced to create custom transfers in that range. I certainly dont want to weed an order that size unless its just plain simple line art or a line of text. The real problem is turn around time from order to delivery. You also need to watch for ganging options, screen charges and art fees. Try and have your art ready to go...it will save you money and time

Lucy - is there a way to differentiate between GOOD vinyl and NOT SO GOOD or BAD vinyl for the plotter/cutter/small quantity option? Is there a brand we should look for or look out for ie "don´t buy Brand X, DO buy DuPont" or something?

Thanks

Ralf

I have done EVERY thing with First Edition through E-mail. Asked for samples. Have sent in designs multiple times for the art department to look at and tell me what I need to fix. They have spent a lot of time helping me and I haven't spent a dime with them yet. I assure you I will though.

The samples are great and the serivce is outstanding. I would definetly talk to Janet if I were you.

I agree to a point. Single color can quickly be done and if the design is not to complicated can easily be weeded. It is when you have multple colors (i have not done with vinyl yet) that I think you should use transfers. 24 or 36..
