Question Details needed on how Spreadshirt works

I've looked around, including on Spreadshirt's own site, but I'm STILL unclear on exactly how things work over there. (I'm currently a CafePress shopkeeper and just wanted to check out Spreadshirt for fun.) Maybe I'm missing something, but it appears to me that any design I upload will be available for ALL other Spreadshirters to use--and that's definitely not what I want. I want to use Spreadshirt in exactly the same way I use CafePress, i.e., uploading my original designs, putting them on various products, and selling them on my site ONLY. Is this not possible with SS, or have I simply missed something?

Frankly, I don't understand why anyone would WANT to have their designs used by just anybody...I certainly don't. If there's no way around letting everybody else use my designs, Spreadshirt isn't for me.

Hi LinuxGeek,

I run a Spreadshirt Shop and it works as follows:

When you upload a design, you have the option to offer it on the Spreadshirt marketplace.
When you do so others can create products with it and sell it in their shops or it can be found directly in the SpreadShirt T-Shirt designer. You specify what commission you want on your design, and you earn this commission every time the design is sold through the marketplace.

When you opt out of the marketplace, you can sell your design exclusively in your own shop.

Tip: I earn more on designs sold on the marketplace than on designs sold in my shop. Especially vector designs do well on the marketplace.

Thanks, CardVibes! Your explanation was perfect, including the part about your designs making money in the the marketplace! I don't do vector graphics, though, and the kind of designs I do make are generally 'message' designs, like anti-Bush sayings, just text, on products. So I don't think there would be much market for them, because I'd likely put them on every product available anyway.

Oh, nice shop, by the way!
