Default Want to start printing T-shirts for my business

Currently I have a business that sells shirts. I have to order them and wait 2-3 weeks to get them in, even though they are right down the street. I would like to buy my own equipment to make a few shirts. I probably sell about 50+ shirts a year but they are in all sizes from M-3X and include hooded sweatshirts.

What kind of equipment would I need to make a few shirts and sweatshirts here and there?

For 50+ shirts a year I would not go that deep in debt. Just order transfers and a heat press. Then all you have to is press it right on the shirt that is the right size.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I've been doing the same thing. It's tough to compete w/the other businesses that have 24-48 hrs. turn-a-round. I was considering doing the same thing. I do more than 50...but, not more than 5,000. I just started this year...but, I already had a built-in customer base. Good luck!

I would recommend you to take some classes on screen printing first. Most people get into screen printing thinking it's easy and find it overwhelming.

Im not trying to discourage you, but if you have a buisness already that sells shirts, it's going to take you long hours on the learning the process by yourself with lot's of mistakes. And also when purchasing equipment make sure you buy the best you can afford. Goodluck

I second the heat transfer idea. If you're only doing 50+ shirts it wouldn't be worth it to incur the cost of a full screen printing set up. although **** Blick and other such art stores offer small printing setups for pretty cheap. These are DIY kits and are not super high quality but I've seen some people get great prints from barely any equipment.

EDIT:

I see the dirty word filter is set pretty high, here is a link to the art store I'm referring to.

I would also look for a different screen printer. They may be just down the street but they are not the fastest. I'm sure if you shopped around you could find faster and cheeper. Even better try a one stop printer and have them source the goods for you. That can cut out a bit of time.
