Default Printer question

Ok so in very new to this and wanted to learn how to screen print on my own but everywhere I read people use a Epson printer. I was just wondering could I use a laser printer to print postives on transparent paper? Just got a Dell 1700 n and wanted to know. Thanks

I used an HP laser printer before getting my image setter. I had no issues with my laser printer other then being limited to 11x17" film. I ran velum and was able to expose 60dpi process jobs no problem. The thing with using toner (laser jet printers) is making sure you're getting a strong enough deposit on the velum. as the toner cartridge runs low the deposit is uneven so you need to keep an eye on that.

'transparencys' is a generic term.
There's only 2 kinds ive personally worked with, Vellum on a laser jet printer and acetate film through an image setter.

here's a link for a decent vellum, not the same brand i was using 5 years ago but they seem good. Vellum / Translucent Papers for Screen Printers - SMR Premium Velum for Film Positives Eliminates Darkroom Costs
