Cool Exposure times

Hi All,Great info on this forum.Love It....My burn times are longer then what I hear others are burning at.My set up is home made with a 750 watt halogen work lite seperate fan for cooling and 20 inches away from a 1/4 inch piece of glass which I salvaged from a store front. With a 2 coated, 200 mesh screen it takes me 25 minutes to get the correct exposure according to the step guide that I place on the screen.Wash out is fine and I get very good detail but burn time is long.Could my glass be blocking some uv and if so how can I test the glass to tell? Thank you all who answer, and thanks to all who have answered in the past,Gary

The emulsion you're using will effect how long it takes to burn a screen. What are you using?

I use a fast exposing emulsion, and a 500w halogen from 20". My regular time is 10 minutes, and I burned a 2/2 screen for 12:30 with good results. I haven't used an exposure guide, so for all I know I'm underexposing .

You could try taping the exposure guide down good and tight, and burn a screen to see if the glass is effecting the burn time, or pick up a piece of 1/8: from the store for a few bucks to try.

I do want to try a thicker piece of glass myself, the extra weight has got to help with undercutting.

I use a 500 watt halogen and have been burning for 28 minutes according to my step wedge test......but i was noticing the finer details were filling in.....so I cut 10 minutes off the exposure time...and what a difference..... it depends were under the light you are placing the step test.....dirrectly under the light will give different result than out on the edge of the screen...I did a few tests with a newly coated screen ......I put 3 step tests on the screen in different places...one directly under the light ...and the other one a little farther out...and the last even farther out......they all had different results.....

the one directly under the light was perfect solid 7 at 18 minutes.....the other two were a solid 5 and a solid 3 ....keep that in mind....

Hi,forgot to say I am using a dual cure diazo emulsion. My step guide has always been away from image area,I'll try bringing it closer to center and see if I can cut my time down.Just don't have the money for a pro unit with this economy being so screwed up.Thanks for the replys ,,Gary
