Unhappy Scratching and light printing using R1800

Help!!

I am using an Epson R1800 to output my color seps. I am getting intermittent bands of light areas in the design. It looks like perhaps the print head is touching the film after the ink is laid down and smearing it. Its not a problem with the heads needing cleaning. We've run the cleaning routine and get perfect test printing. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice?

I use a bulk system. There is plenty of ink. This is a kind of ongoing problem. It is always the worst when print a large filled area.

The R1800 printers are notorious for causing issues with bulk systems. You might have some air in the lines or intermittent flow from your bulk system. Who's bulk system are you using?

Contact Juan at www.MyAZTechPro.com. He should be able to help.

I had the same problem. Found out it was the bulk system tube that was hanging too low and was scraping the film. Try tightening up the tube using the holder that most of them come with. Make sure that when the carriage is all the way to the right that the tubes are snug and that should solve your problem. Aloha

I'm having the same sort of issue (with my Epson 1400). The ink is blobbing towards the beginning of the print, and smearing across the first few inches (sometimes more). I have refillable CISS style carts (from InkJetCarts Home Page). Everything seems to work perfectly on paper, even with the same print settings (ultra premium glossy photo paper, highest quality settings), so I'm wondering if it's the film material scraping the print heads or something. Very strange. I'm using Ulano pigment 11x17 film. The inkjetcarts.us docs suggest an air problem, but I'm not sure how that would translate to these problems, and why it would never seem to happen when printing to paper, only film.
