Default Printing heat transfers

I would like to know the exact process for printing heat transfers. Can any screen printer do it? Does it take specialized processes? Because I would like to figure out a cheaper way and one that is closer to me, eg.. quicker.

Alan: all it takes is a heat press, shirt and a transfer. If the screen printer has a heat press then yes he can, there are a lot of company's that will make a transfer with your art and you just press it. Hope it helps, John

Thanks for the reply. My question was off. I have been printing shirts for a couple years now with heat transfers. What I want to know is how do they print the transfers that I purchase. Can any screen printer just squeegee ink onto transfer paper and we have my transfer? What is the process making the transfers. Thanks for any help.

Alan, making plastisol transfers is just like screen printing a shirt except you put it on transfer paper with the image reversed and you lower the drier so it's not cured completely and you sprinkle it with an adhesive. Hope it helps you. John

Do you know of any of the specific companies that print art work to a heat transfer? I'm trying to find a few to compare but having no luck.
