Default film printing

I have an epson 1400 that I am using to print my films with. I am running them through accurip (trial version), standard epson ink, printing out of illustrator on a mac. The problem im having is that I have lines in the print. What can I do to eliminate that?

First thing is to check that the head is printing OK by running a nozzle check.

Find your printer in your applications folder and find the utilities program. Run that and do an alignment and nozzle check.

I had a similar issue and tried alignment and nozzle check and cleaning, etc, and in the end I discovered that my black ink was low. I switched out the cartridge and all was good.

Vertical streaks on films:
the media size in AccuRIP and your page size in your graphics program "print window" do not match. Advised to download a FREE upgrade at AccuRIP Software Use the trial version to upgrade your present version, no questions asked – it will auto update seamlessly.
The newest release of AccuRIP has a great feature that auto adjusts the media size based on the "page/document size" set in the properties of your graphics program.

Horizontal streaks on films:
using the Epson software (not AccuRIP) run a "nozzle check" and perform a head cleaning if needed. Next, if you are using a non-waterproof film and running at lower resolutions upgrade your film to a waterproof brand. The streaks are due to the films inability to generate quality results at lower resolution with a proper amount of ink. Other RIP software "flood cover" films making non-waterproof film seem good, but the over-saturated (dot gain) results make poor quality films and prints. AccuRIP deposits the right amount of ink to make proper films so use the proper media.
This is most common with Epson 3000 users that are switching over from other RIP's and are still using non-waterproof films. Using better films and a proper RIP (AccuRIP) will be a major step up in quality and speed.

Thank you for all your input. I ran a nozzle check and all seems good. I think the issue may be with the film. Before I ran prints through accurip, the blacks were not very dark at all. Once I started running them through accurip, there was a noticeable difference in the black. I will have to find a way to adjust the print quality of the file to match the media. I did notice that my options are less since I hooked the printer to my mac. It seemed that I had more options when running it through my pc. I only use my pc for my sp-300v so I don't want to revert back to that.

My only guess is if you are printing too low of a resolution, that could do it, assuming your banding is horizontal.

yes, the banding is horizontal. Any ideas on how I can increase the print resolution? Like I said, i'm printing directly from illustrator. I don't see an option to increase the print quality in my print window

I don't know how to work AccuRIP, but if it's anything like ours, on the print screen you can choose the RIP, then properties and in the advanced properties choose your resolution. I've been noticing people printing pretty high in resolution so you may want to go max on your first number 5440 x 1440 (or whatever it may be).

not sure as I don't use illy but see if there is a setting to change for blends. banding is usually seen in printing of gradient blends. I know in Corel you can adjust the default setting to 999. maybe there is something along these lines in Illy.

Usually banding is seen when you have large areas of a gradient. Also the larger the halftone you use the less you will see the banding

Open up Accurip and set up your print within that program.
I use Accurip with a Epson r1800 and a pc through Photoshop.
I set up within photoshop and within Accurip.

hi, i have an epson 2200 and i use to have the same problem with those lines, and what i do is cleaning the heads few times until they disappear. Some other thing that i notice is when you stop using your printer for few months looks like the ink get stuck inside the cartridge so what i do is take off the cartridge. And shaked few time and problem resolve. Well im talking on my personal experience. Good luck
