When you have a regular customer do you keep the screen or make new one when they come back?
After you finish an order do you keep the screen for the next time the customer orders or do you make it each time?
lol You are welcome to point and laugh.
When I started I bought coated screens to see what a screen looks like and feels like to work with. When I made mistakes I threw them out. The lady that helped me get started sold me the stuff to clean and recoat the screen. I just forgot I had it until I was asked why I was buying so many screens.

My repeat customers i keep the screens for a period. if they have not ordered in a few months and i need the screen I reclaim it but if i don't really need it i hold it longer.

I hold the screens for a few months....unless im running low on screens and need to use them...if not I hold them.....If I have to reburn , I recharge a setup fee if it is longer than 3 months for a reorder.

Inked
Never would have thought to charge a setup fee like that it is good idea.

Depends on how regular the customer is really. You should be charging folks a fee for the screen(s), so if you keep the screen(s) for a customer, it's like a reward program. It's appreciated.

i keep the flms for everyjob and just reburn them as I need them, otherwise i'd have a billion screens
I have had customers ask if i keep my screens, and I tell them i will gladly archive burnt screens for them for a fee (usually the cost of a new replacement)

Customers ask us if we keep screens too, I just tell them we do because when I used to say we don't but we reburn the screens, they got really confused.

I personally don't keep the screen because I don't have allot of screens just laying around. Usually I will keep the transparecy and the pdf file, just in case they come back. As stated screens that are lying around don't make any money.

Unused screens don't make me money.
sometimes educating the client on the process is a good thing. It helps them to consider the amount of work involved and they usually will not bark at paying screen fees on reorders. Plus giving them that extra little attention makes them feel that much more important and good. A happy customer is a paying customer.
No matter what state the screen is in, they are not making money unless on press, full of ink and have a squeegee pushing and pulling over the stencil.
Not many shops these days stock screens, they are inexpensive and the size of wharehouse to store them out weighs reburning. Plus you make more money reburning

I have a few customers that re-order once a month like clockwork, easier to just keep their screens in stock, otherwise I reclaim every saturday morning.

Wow it is good to have so many ways to work this. As a customer I would have been confused and I can see where a good explanation would help.
I have a contract with the bands I work with and for them I will keep the screens. Without a contract I will make sure that they understand the process and that there will be an added fee. That might be an incentive to place a bigger order.
