Default My Wash Out Nightmare

Somebody give me some advice before I go all Taxi Driver!

I've been exposing screens for two minutes under a 500w halogen light, the washout is a nightmare. The image washe's out but it's very dicey and some of the emulsion is very soft and washes away. If I manage to wash it out then after it's dry there's some blockage in the image which you can see under light, kind of like a snail trail thing.

Any troubleshooting tips, should I be increasing my exposure?

Thanks in advance

i have a 1000w halide bulb and expose for 4-6 min. you're probably closer to 10-15 minutes w/ that bulb.

i find it's better to overexpose than be even just slightly underexposed.

try wetting the screen both sides. do most of your washout on the print side, go back and rinse the ink side to make sure you get out all the "scum". if you wipe the ink side and emulsion is on your finger, you need to rinse more. if you still get it on your finger and the image is washing out, you are underexposed.

many will suggest a step wedge test, but i've found it's too much fiddling to get an accurate test.

lay step test on screen - expose? thats to much fiddling?

maybe burning 3 screens to get a good exposure isnt to much fiddling?

I use a 500 watt halogen and to get a good burn , I burn for 26 - 30 minutes..... I know its a long burn...but I get a good result every time.......I built a exposure unit..but need thicker piece of glass...any one have any suggestions as to were to get said glass?

Inked- try ace hardware if you have one in town or a glass company. Mine's is 3/8" thick- not too thick, not too fragile.

I use a 500w halogen and my exposure time is roughly 5-7 mins.

What emulsion are you using?

one of my posts shows my test, but thats all you need to do.. test the exposure time your emulsion needs.
