Default Ink bleeds (spiky)

Hi all,

We're trying our hands on a little screen printing projects and there are some problem. Each of the photos below were using the same type of ink (TC Dye - water based inks) and the same blocks. Please tell me why 1 of the print actually bleeds or has a spiky lines. Any of u out there experienced this ? We print this on a 100% cotton t-shirt. thanks

Nicer print

Spiky print

What could be the most accurate reason for this ???

1) Ink too watery ?
2) Dirty screen ? (we can get good print in between thou??-some print is spiky before and some is after !! weird)
3) We're not using Plastisol, so is that the problem ?

No, we haven't tried on any other type of inks. So could the ink be the best reason besides the cloth ? It's 100% cotton.

How many passes? It looks like what happens if you overprint too much.

hi, we did it with mostly 1 pass only ... apply a fair amount of speed and strenght .... it seems that out of 10 prints we get only 2-3 very nice prints and the rest will spike/bleed ... can any of u please advise ?

hows your off contact...looks like it might be to low....and the shirt is sticking to the screen when you lift the screen ..... maybe use a little more adhesive on the shirt platen... just a couple thoughts.....

Inked has got you going right. Make sure your screen sits about 1/8" above your shirt before you print and keep your squeegee angle fairly high about 70-80 degrees. If you clear the ink through the screen with one smooth stroke then it shouldn't be rough around the edges. If you have to use multiple strokes then the print will begin to look bad. Make sure you have enough tack on your platen so your shirt doesn't lift up.

Every couple of shirts or so take a 2-3" piece of tape and stick it to the backside of your screen (the side that touches the shirt) covering the print area and then pull it off, kind of like a bandaid. This will clear up that ink that you have spreading outside of your print area. Fairly common problem on a manual press for new printers.

u're right that is the problem !!! we're getting closer to a nicer print ... and very minimum bleed ... the clip tat we're using is creating an angle for the block and we might add height to either the clip or the block ...

again thanks a lot !
