Default Fluorescent Bulb Image Exposure

i HAVE a light box with a round fluorescent bulb... will this work better than a 500 watt halogen light? for exposing images?

actually it was given to me this morning.....

Not if it is a standard cool white fluorescent, it will take considerably longer. If you can find a UV blacklight to replace the bulb with, it may be better.

I mean its not a round bulb like the standard light bulb. Its in a donut shape.. a tube....

Right, like this:


No matter the shape, cool white fluorescents are poor for exposing. I think you'll have a tough time finding a blacklight replacement for that.

how long is considerably longer? hr? 1/2hr? i too received a regular unfiltered florecent light(long version) and trying to figure out... and you don't know if screen burned or not before you wash out the emulsion, correct?

Sometimes you can see a lighter shade in the emulsion where the image is burned in. If you can see the image, it's probably pretty well exposed.

thanks... how long should i expose it? mine isn't black light, it's just regular flourecent bulb(but seller said it was unfiltered)....

Unfiltered black light fluorescents look white until you turn them on. If it's purple when you turn it on, it is really an unfiltered BL.

If it's a regular cool white, you are just going to have to experiment. It depends on your emulsion, coating technique, etc. Do a exposure test with a piece of paper, move it 5 minutes at a time.
