What screen printing techniques used in each shirt
I've seen a few shirts with various amounts of colors and was wondering what techniques are used for each t-shirt. Here are a few examples I was wondering if you could help me out with them.

they all look like screen printing to me, the last could be done with a heat transfer for lights, or maybe sublimation, but it looks like it was screen printed also

Excuse my ignorance but doesnt it cost more for each additional color used? In some of the examples I gave it looked like they used several colors. Wouldnt that end up costing alot of money just to print each shirt?

1) Looks like a 1-color screen print.
2) Screen printing with a press that has micro-registration.
3) 5-color screen print.
4) Most likely a heat transfer - unless some crazy person wanted to do some insane simulated 4-color process screen printing...
5) Looks like a direct-to-garment (DTG) print.

how can you tell if a machine has micros or not. i dont think 4 is a heat transfer. 5 could be dtg, i didnt think of that. and yes there are plenty of insane printers that would print that.

yes more colors, more money. but with the white tees, you could get away with four color process, or print them with a dtg. if your printing in large quantities, and using an automatic, you can keep costs down.

all of those shirts can be done with a screen printing press. Spot colors and even Process ink
They also can be done with a dtg-or a Transfers
My personal thought
#1 Screen printed 1 color spot
#2 Dtg
#3 5 color spot
#4 DTG
#5 Heat transfer

If you mean, how can I tell from that picture, I figured the machine used had micros because those colors are so precise. They align perfectly. It doesn't look like there is any overprinting or choking on the print.
If you mean, how can you tell that a press actually has micros, it depends on the press, but usually there's a little joystick or something similar in the center of the print head.

you can print any of those with or without micros. as long as your machine holds tight registration. i have micros, and i hate them. when i first started i never had them, so i learned with out them. what you do need, is a good understanding of how to seperate your artwork for printing. ive done plenty of butt registration, and never touched my micros. there is certain techniques you need to know on how to seperate.
and yes i know some machines have great micros, of the 4 presses ive used, 3 had micros, and i didnt use any of them. just never liked them. im sure with auto presses its a different story.

I know it can be done without micros (I don't have them myself, and can get really good registration without them), but I know a lot of people who swear by them for jobs like that one where there are a lot of colors with small details that require exact registration to look seamless.
I agree that a good understanding of color separation is one of the first things you need when moving on from one to multiple color imprints, and it will often eliminate registration issues. And I will always recommend learning the many other techniques of registration and finding the one that works best for you.

My guesses
1. one color spot
2. six color spot
3. five color spot
4. DTG
5. CMYK
Atleast thats how I would do them.
#4 would be fun to try and nail with eight or less colors or maybe a CMYK with some spot colors Though the CMYK would not be as vivid.
