Default Mesh count required for this print -are my #'s correct?

Hi,

I'm new to screenprinting and looking to do a small run of t-shirts.

I decided to diy the shirts because it's something for a few friends, something where I may make one or two t-shirts every few weeks. I realize that most shops would rather not do that. After doing some researching, it looks like I will need a few things, I just wanted some feedback as to if I was on the right track.

Frame: I was looking at making my own and streching with a mesh count of 156-190. But after some more looking it looks like mesh is ~$20 a yard, for that cost I would rather spend $25 on a premade screen and not worry about it.

Will this mesh count be adaquate for the design I'm planning on with black ink on a white shirt?
Is the mesh price I'm finding an average cost?

Just getting some general photo-emulsion, no particular brand in mind.

Inks: a guy at the local Community College print shop told me a while back they used speedball, from looking on here it seems like Plastisol is the ideal. Though I'm not sure what opacity to look for.
What specific black ink should I be looking at? The Union Ink Company | Screen Printing Inks website was getting to me as there are lots of different types of ink.

Thanks for the help!

For just doing a few shirts I would definitely just buy a pre-strotched screen. 156 mesh will do it easily. Plastisol is good but you will need a heat source to cure it to the shirt. Either a heat gun, flash dryer, conveyor, or even your home oven.

I'm looking at ordering the ink, how far do you think a pint would go on this print? Not really a specific # but a ~10 or a ~1000 shirts.

I'm looking at max 100 t-shirts but that would be a while before that happens.

Depends on the mesh count you end up using. 110 uses more ink than a 230. And how big the design will be on the shirt. Are you ever going to use black ink again? If so, get a quart.
