I have an Epson R2400 that we use to print film positives on transparencies. We just recently learned (after a year) to print halftones with the Accurip (which is awesome).
The problem I've run into (once again) is that for some unknown reason we have gone from deep dark positives to all of a sudden they are a pale black and need to be run through and reprinted at least twice more.
I can't tell that we've changed anything and it's not the print heads needing cleaned. Once before when it did this, I had to uninstall and reinstall and it out of the blue finally went back to printing correctly.
I have downloaded the newest driver (just in case) and am at wit's end (isn't a far trip lately). If anyone knows a trick or has had similar issues, please fill me in.
I think that you may have altered a setting when setting up the halftone, was it coincidental with the pale film? Halftones look dark even when they're not because of the backlight (if you stand against a window, you look dark).
Could you post what ink settings you're using?
I don't know where to find the settings you are talking about. If you could point me to them, I would love to do that.
This printer did this once before when we didn't even know what halftones were. It has been nothing but grief since the day it came out of the box. Thanks for your reply, Dave. Much appreciated.
I print best photo with photo enhance. Print vectors, bitmaps, text with all text in black.output bitmaps as grayscale, fountain steps 256. I have grayscale checked and marked to 800. Not to separations right now. If these are the incorrect settings that I am marking, PLEASE tell me. I'm ready to chuck this thing out in the trash.
I fixed it. I uninstalled and reinstalled it and replaced a lot of ink cartridges. I think I'm going to buy the Epson R1400 though. If anyone has anything bad to say about the R1400, please speak out. I just can't keep doing this. No time for drama with inanimate objects. Thanks for your help though.
What did you uninstall/install?
"best photo with photo enhance. Print vectors, bitmaps, text with all text in black.output bitmaps as grayscale, fountain steps 256. "
The settings you mention sound like Epson or graphic software settings. AccuRIP doesn't use any Epson software. All you set is resolution and dot size in the 'setup' menu.
Since you have a pigment ink 2400, you will have a change with the dye inkjet 1400 printer, but AccuRIP and the printheads are very similar.
