Default Full Color Printing on dark shirts

Hey everyone!

I'm new to this forum and wanted to say that I was very excited to find it.

I recently got a job as a creative director for a t-shirt company and want to do some full color process printing. The artists I work with use lots of colors and I'm not in a position to do 13 screen shirts yet. I've been researching full color processing and everyone says to NOT print on darker colored shirts as it looks like crap. I recently did a full color job on a white and silver shirt and it turned out well, but some companies are doing stuff on black shirts and it looks great. Here are some examples:

flying coffin

flying coffin

flying coffin

How are they doing this? Are they doing the underbase with white discharge first and then printing on that? I've had a few people guess that is the process Flying Coffin was using, but I wanted to ask all of you to see if anyone knew. This HAS GOT TO BE doable as F.C. did it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Justin

It says they are process prints. My guess is that they are using discharge as the underbase and doing 4 color process over that with a gold metallic spot outline. It would be a 6 color job.
