Default Need a little help on heat setting

I just finished my first batch of shirts, and I'm having a bit of trouble heat setting. I'm printing white ink on red 100% cotton shirts, and the shirts were scorching at high heat with my iron, so I turned it down just enough to not scorch badly. I washed the shirts to be sure they set, and several have ink partially washed out. The iron worked fine on a previous 50/50 cotton/polyester red shirt. Any tips to heat set on cotton without scorching?

What type of ink are you using? Waterbased?

Red shirts do change color under heat. What looks like scorching may not be. They usually return to their normal color after cooling.

Yeah, I'm using Versatex waterbased. Thanks for the heads up. Do any other colors of shirts typically do that? And is there a way to tell whether it's just changing color or scorching?

yes red is one of the most noticeable but other colors like blues, greens, yellows, etc. will have the same effect. Heat a shirt before you begin the project to see what it will do. After a few minutes you will see the color return to what it was before. good luck!

Also i trust you are putting a piece of paper or something between the shirt and the iron?
