Do you make your own screens for screen printing?
I do and I was just wondering if others who make their own could post what they do to build them.
Right now I get the wood for the screens (for canvas, but still works) from an art supply store and stretch the fabric over the screen then tacking it into place.
Any suggestions from those who also make their own?
It may save time and money in the long run to invest in metal screens. You could reuse them much longer then wood, won't warp, and are great with color separations and halftones. I've made screens and they take time to make and are more fragile than aluminum.
It's cheaper and faster to buy, screens are not so expensive, even aluminum. You can try aaframes.com or Victory Factory for low priced screens, you can get a 24x20 screen for less than $18, depending on the mesh. I've thought about making my own but the cost of supplies and stress from stretching isn't worth it, unless you already of the materials of course.
i think trying to stretch your own screens is a waste of time, unless they are retensionable screens, or unless you have the high priced equipment to do it properly
