Ok I'm gathering supplies so I can go ahead and do some experimenting and get a grasp on screenprinting. Please let me know if I am missing any items or if there is anything I should change considering I am just starting out. I am including a price list as well so if anyone knows of a better deal, cheaper chemical, sales, etc please let me know.
That comes to about $93.19 before tax just to get me started.
By the way, I already have a heat gun that I will use for for curing and I have a 500w work light which I will create a stand for and use as an exposure light. I will either build or buy a screen press later on but for right now for experimenting purposes I will find a way to affix the screen to a flattop table. I will upgrade to the industry standards once I get the hang of everything. What will I need as far as a cleaner for the plastisol?
Ok I came up with an order from Ryonet. Does this sound like a decent price? I already have a heat gun and light for exposure but I added up all of the supplies if bought separate minus the heat gun and light and it came up to more so I figured I would do this and get the extras . They also order a "screen printing starter kit that includes the press but it doesn't include all of the stuff below and it costs more. This seems like the best deal I've found. Here is the order:
Product Starter Kit · Qt of Ink (Chose from Primary Colors) · 1 Large Goop Scoop · 20x24 inch 110 Mesh Wood Screen · 10 Inch Squeegee · 16" Scoop Coater, for easy emulsion application. (not shown) · Emulsion – 1 Quart of CCI DXP dual cure emulsion · Emulsion Remover – 8 oz bottle of ER/80 screen reclaimer – makes 1 gallon · ScreenWash 147 Qt – Cleans plastisol ink from used screens or press · Nutralyze Screen Degreaser Qt – cleans the screen of oils and dirt · Liquid Renu-It(quart) – is used as a ghost image and stain remover · Red Coat Block out (8oz) – is primarily used to fill pin holes on screens · CCI Mist Adhesive – is an aerosol spray that tacks garments to printing board · 1 - 16oz bottles of ProChem hand cleaner & conditioner - removes ink from skin · 1 Spray Nozzle · 3 Blue Scrub Pads · Wagner Heat Gun - 2 Yr Warranty - Used for Curing shirts. · 500 Watt Halogen Cure Light · 12x14" Sheet of flat glass to place over positive film while exposing screen. · 10 Sheets of 8.5"x11" Kimoto Silkjet Positive Film · Instructional screen printing DVD
+
· Stationary Screen Printing "Silver Press"
Total shipped to my door $344.53

It went up because I don't have anything to print the screens on. I am going to get a press which is $159. And if I bought all of those supplies separate without the heat gun or exposure light it would be $300. Or I could buy the kit that includes the heat gun and exposure light and pay $298. Why not save $2.00 and get a brand new heat gun and 500w light? You guys know more about this stuff then I do. By all means tell me what I need and don't need. I am open to all suggestions.
Sooner or later (and my money is on sooner) you are going to want to get a flash dryer for curing. You will find curing with a heat gun, spotty and slooow.
seriously. I bought all my equipment over time and it was a big mistake now that i look back. I could have saved up and gotten a kit instead but i was inexperienced and impatient so i spent probably twice what i should have... I think getting everything you need for only 350 is very nice. But a flash should definitely be the next purchase... You will go insane using that heat gun.
Matt,
Agreed with the previous posts about getting a flash. You also might want to look into getting an aluminum screen. It's more heavy duty, won't warp, and should cost about $20.
