Default Screen Printers w/ DTG

How many of you screen printers also have a DTG at their shop? If so, which one do you have? Is it a big helper or a dust collector? How many shirts are you selling on average per month with your DTG with your screen printing company?

An associate of mine purchased a DTG before I met him. I did alot of research on them. And overall they suck. DTG's don't seem to be beneficial equipment to have. The inks are expensive printing is tedious and not clean as a designer would like. He spent nearly 20k on his and needless to say it hasn't paid for itself 12 months later. That really sucks.

I just got a DTG printer and it's great. I have been getting a lot of orders. I just completed an order for 300 shirts. This order had prints on the front, back and the client wanted a tag printed in the shirt, I completed it in less then one day.

I do not screen print at all. My DTG printer is a Kodi Jet.

Wow, 900 shirts (print locations) in 1 day, that's a lot. We have an Anajet. Its a tool that adds to the screen printing not a replacement. We use it for small orders with lots of colors. We have also screen printed the backs and DTG the photo fronts. We are a contract printer so its hard to say how many DTG we print in a month we have only had it about 6 months but it paying its way. Henry beare in mind our company has been in business 25 years and has an established customer base, I wouldn't want to count only on the DTG to pay the bills at least for this shop. Hope this helps, John

Nice addition to screen printing, but very expensive. We have a flexi-jet. Too early to tell yet, I don't do too many t-shirts in winter. We'll see what happens in the summer. I don't see how a dtg only shop can pay the bills- but everybody's situation is different.
I would trade 2 dtg machines for a versacamm.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I am looking at a refurbed one right now. I guess it can't replace screen printing, but I'd like it for small runs and runs with lots of colors (simulated process type printing). BUT, one thing I figured is that I need to sell a lot of one off tees to make a return on the investment. I have a lot to handle as is, adding this might hurt us more then help.

sorry for the typo that was supposed to be 30 not 300. so that would be 90 seperate prints.
