Default Help out the Newbies!!!

Being a newbie to screenprinting myself i figured that it'd be great to have a thread which would list the best places (quality and price) to purchase supplies(ink, screens, etc).

I know that alot of newbies out there are probably looking and asking themselves the same question. This would be like a one stop shop, and not only helpful to newbies but also great advertisement to those companies that truly look out for their customers and deserve recognition.

Let me begin w/ mine, i purchase all my stuff from silkscreeningsupplies.com. Was the first site i ordered and stuck w/ it. I don't know if there are other sites that offer better prices but i guess we'll find out w/ the development of this thread.

so c'mon guys (and girls), lets hear it!!!!

I guess it really depends on the relationship you have with the people at silkscreen supplies. You can go to a 1 stop shop or you can order directly from specific companies. We always used Midwest Screen Printing Supplies. They had really knowledgeable staff that could answer questions I had about inks, screens, spray adhesives, foil, process inks and would not try to upsell me but just guide me. For me it was really about the rapport that I built with the staff. Once you make some key relationships and you are happy...stick there! Good people are hard to find. Also get to know your craft well. Do your homework and expand in your personal growth. Go to every tradeshow (and here is the key) TAKE SOME CLASSES and learn from the PROFESSIONALS. My business drastically Improved in just one weekend by going to every class I could get to at a screen print convention. WAY worth the 150 bucks I paid in time saving Ideas. Also subscribe to things like Scott Freseners Newsletter at US Screen print institute...or better yet go to Arizona and take some hands on classes. If you can't afford it...go buy some of his resources...need help with corel or photoshop...Fresener has all of those on DVD that anyone in your shop can watch to learn. It takes you out of having to be the expert at everything. Get his book, How to print for fun and profit. That should help you get some idea on printing and pricing. You can find it HERE.
hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with, Specifically marketing, generating referrals and following up the right way.

Wishing you success.

When I first started out there was two local suppliers, and one just took me under their wing, good folks with great advice so price isn't as important when you get great service and knowledge of what you are trying to achieve. You cant really put a price on that!

As a newbie you should value support over price, you will need it.

There's lots of threads that do that here:
screen printing supplies related topics at T-Shirt Forums

Sometimes a more descriptive thread title can work wonders

This is more a comment for everyone posting threads than directed at you, but:

You wrote "help out the newbies", which requires that busy people have to click through to the thread to find out what exactly you need help with. Since many members here run businesses, they only have a limited amount of time to answer questions. So they try to help out where they know they can and they don't/can't read every thread.

If you leave out what you need help with in the title, then they may have to skip that question in the interest of time, since they don't know if they can help you unless they click through and read the question.

A title like "list of places where you can buy screen printing supplies" or "where do YOU buy your screen printing supplies" may have gotten more relevant responses sooner.

A lack of answers doesn't mean that folks don't want to help out a newbie Sometimes it takes more than 2 hours to get a response.

We actually don't allow "advertisements" in the forum threads, but you can find great recommendations and feedback on all kinds of suppliers and vendors using the search box at the top of the site.
