I do alot of printing for bands that need high detail printing. I mostly use 230 mesh and coat it with ProChem DXP Pink Dual Cure Diazo Emulsion. Works well but I'm curious if anyone swears by anything else? So if you have a favorite, post it and why you prefer it. Maybe some of us could find something new to try.
I prefer to stick with major brands. Right now I'm using Chromaline PL. It's high solids for less coats and no drips. Still trying to decide if the extra cost (x2) over my old standby, Murakami Photocure TXR is justified. I've also used Ulano QTX and a few others, and was not impressed.
I have used the Imagemat PC701 and with 1/1 coat I get some decent detail on halftones. High solids and low dry times. Chromaline bought out Imagemate and created a similar product Chromablue haven't used it yet . . . waiting to run out of pc701. Low burns times and easy washouts.
I have a quick question to ask, how many times do you coat the screen with emulsion? and does it matter if someone uses transparent paper instead of clear plastic paper for the image?
Ok, but I am having still the problem when washing out, getting the right light exposure is hard to find, 30 seconds can make a lot of difference, and using the natural sun rays seems to be the best source. starting out on one's own trail & error is a whole lot of fun, yeah right!!!
Im still pretty much a noob, only have slightly over a year of experiance but check out this site... http://www.screenprintingvideo.com I'm sure theirs a million places to get this info but these videos have been helpful to me.
I use CCI Graphic HS, and it is becoming an issue to wash out.
Can someone recommend a good emulsion for plastisol printing. Something not to sensitive because I wash my screens out outside (in the shade) but easy to wash out.
I use Ulano QTX. Never have issues with exposure or washout, but I'm using a Metal Halide exposure unit.
My coating methods change based on how short/long the job is.
If I need solvent resistancy I use Ulano QFX or Ulano QLT. All three are pre-sensitized emulsions. Shelf life is over 12 months in proper-storage (sealed cap and low humidity).
Some emulsions are cheaper, but the old saying goes you get what you pay for. I've used cheaper emulsions and had issues, so I don't bother with them. Some people have no trouble at all with them, so who knows.
I think depending on equipment, coating methods, relative temps/humidity in your location, inks and chemicals used, how well/which degreaser you use plays into all of it. I always degrease my screens and let them dry over night, then coat them and let them dry overnight. I got my exposures perfect using an exposure calculator.
Hope that helps you out. Good luck with your printing!
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for all the info, some of it went over my head but that is ok, it gives me more to read about. I am at the beginning stage and loving it, so please pile on more info.
