Default Transparency not getting good contact with screen

I'm having a very difficult time getting my transparency in good contact with the screen. I went and purchased a piece of plexi about 1/4" thick and it is not hold the transparency down to the screen well (my image makes a shadow on the screen in several places). I place the screen and transparency on a black foam board covered with felt to cushion and aid in the contact but it doesn't seem to be working. My images come out ok but they are a little blurry and all fine lines are completely lost. Any advice how to resolve this? I can stand and push my fingers on the plastic to get a tight fit but then my fingers will leave an imprint in the screen.

I could be wrong but I dont think Plexiglass is heavy enough to make good contact. I would say try going out and buying an actual piece of glass that is not UV protected and see if that helps at all

Thanks, that probably makes sense and is probably much cheaper! This is costing a lot but I'm slowly learning.

Are there any clamps or such that I can buy or something to push it down that won't leave any imprint?

There probably are some clamps at home depot or something that you can use. Honestly though i dont think youll need those. A 1/4 inch thick piece of glass should have enough weight to hold down the transparency properly without leaving any shadows or anything else. Also, i know i said this before but make sure the glass is not uv protected. That can screw everything up. Good luck!

let me know if the piece of glass helps at all!

I would think a piece of glass would be more effective than plexi.
What are you using to expose?
You could try to set the light up from the bottom and set the screen on top of the glass.
More work building the exposure unit but it may be well worth it.

Thanks for the advice, I was using the sun so maybe I need to try another way of exposing.

No, this one didn't have any UV finish, it worked but image came out a little fuzzy because the contact wasn't good

While glass is certainly better than plexi, the fact that you are getting shadows may be due to the angle of the sun. You should try to do mid-day when the sun is at its highest.

Also, don't get 1/4 inch glass. that's too thick and may also cause some shadowing. No thicker than 1/8 inch and it should be the same dimensions as your screen, not your transparency. if it is too small that too will cause shadows on your design.
