This is my first thread to start, so hopefully it's in the right place and hasn't been covered yet.
Of those of you that screen print for businesses/organizations/schools/churches/etc, do you keep blank tees in stock? The business owner (my father) hates stock. He doesn't want to get stuck w/ shirts at the end of the year and have to pay tax on it. We are thinking about keeping some light colored tees in stock now that our garment printer biz is picking up.
We have a broder warehouse 1 day away. Makes it very convenient, but it does bite us in the rear on the occasions when we mess up a shirt. Wait...I mean...we never mess anything up (snicker snicker)
I always liked the idea of having a reasonable inventory of blanks on hand. I did try and stock a few cases of black and several cases of white tees in December in anticipation of the early spring business. Also in my case, every job is a rush- usually 24-48 hour turnaround.
Guy called me Sunday for 20 shirts he needed Monday. I had the white tees in stock and printed with our flexi. 1-1/2 hour turn.
We stock a case of white (1 case each size) and about 1/2 case each of black. When we get close to the end of the year we use the inventory up so we are not sitting on it. If I didn't have some overstock it would hold up my press, even if it is just one day. Holding up a press for one or two shirts on a custom order cost way more than the tax or cost of the inventory. I don't make money setting up the press I make money printing shirts, when we are busy I can't afford to take a print down and reset it up for a couple of shirts.

I like to stock up when the supplier has a bargains or hot sales on tees, just last week, fruit of the loom .95 cents per white tee...so I stocked up one couple cases...
