I am in Sacramento, CA and found it difficult to find anyone that would recommend a screenprinter in my area. So, I checked the net and went with a company here.
I printed 1,000 shirts several months ago and am ready for another batch. Before going with this same printer, I just wanted to see if this is a good deal.
For 200 shirts of one design, here is the breakdown:
1 color - $1.50
2 colors - $1.95
Tagless label - $.65
Back one-color logo about 5 inches - $1.50.
This seems like a good price, but I found some issues with the printing, such as the inside label was printed on the collar of some. The reason I ask is because I'm deciding if I should go back with them if the price was considered great after raising the issues that I've found. Otherwise, if the price was just okay, then I'll spend my time checking out companies around here.
Also, is it normal practice for the screenprinter to refund the price of the print job for each shirt that was messed up, or I just have to chalk it up as a loss?
If you are providing the shirts there is usually a spoilage percentage for misprints 2-4% or maybe higher depending on type of print. Discharge and waterbase could be on the higher side.
Prices are OK. Really the most important issue if you are selling these as a business should be quality first. Anyone can print but not everyone can do them well.

These are vector art designs on screenprinted on t-shirts.
Does anyone know the industry standard or average prices?
I don't know if there is a standard. I have about 3 sets of prices. 1 for walk in, 1 for small contract and 1 for large contract. The prices above look like walk in prices and a little high for the numbers your talking about. Everything is relative though, quality, turn around times ...

In this neighborhood the price would be: $.65 for one color, $.95 for 2 colors with screen fees of $12 per color. Maybe prices are more competitive here in the Philadelphia area.

Closing out this thread because the best way to get pricing on your printing is to contact 2-3 different printers with the same job specs and ask them for quotes.
That way you can see which quotes are competitive.
The forums aren't really intended to be a price comparison service for t-shirt printing. This type of question also encourages self promotional posts (members who are printers offering their services), which we don't allow.
If you have other questions about whether you should contact the printer or how you should handle the order you received, please feel free to start a new thread
