Default Throwing rags (paper towels) in the trash

I just read in How to Print T-shirts that you can't wipe a screen down with a rag and solvent and then throw the rag in the trash.

I don't use rags, but I use paper towels to wipe down pattens, squeegees, and screens with a press wash. What should I know about disposing the used paper towels properly?

Right now I'm using Lawson 305 press wash, really mild. Nothing harsh. I'm thinking of ordering the Franmar Sample pack.

Well - they do have solvent in them so are hazardous waste so should be disposed of properly.

I put my used papertowls with the paper part of my recycling trash. have not had a complaint yet so until I do that is what I will do. I us a citrus based press wash whether that makes a difference or not.

Aren't your paper towels covered in goo and plastisol?

A citrus based press wash isn't really the same thing, because I think the reason your not supposed to throw a rag away with solvent on it is because it could start a fire.

In citris based cleaners are a danger too, I'm not aware of it.

Yeah they are soaked in presswash and ink. I think the process of recycling the paper takes care of that though as they grind up and wash the pulp before using it which make the residue thier responsibility.

As for the fire danger you just have to make sure they are packaged in a sealed bag or something that does not let air in. I double package mine and compress them before tying the top shut to eliminate as much air as I can.
