Hey guys, I was just reading an article by Mike Ruff in the December issue of Screen-Printing magazine about setting neutral grey when doing four color process printing. I understand the basic concept of neutral grey, I just didn't get how exactly to apply it from Photoshop, to screen, to print.
Do any of you print using this method right now? If so, can you give us some pointers?
I have not read the article but is the question in using CYM to get gray and not using K. If so set your Black generation to medium or light in your color settings settings. I hope this makes sense, if not good luck in finding your answer.

Might be better to replace cmy grey with black. I read something about how, but I can't remember exactly where. I hope I have my photoshop set-up to do it.
It's a colour profiling problem, if your cyan (say) is stronger than your M&Y, your greys will have a blue tinge and you need to compensate for that in your profile. It is unusual for a neutral grey to be equal amouns of CM&Y. Increasing black generation helps because it lowers the effect of the colour inks in the grey.

They are the hardest thing to get with a profile, I have a setting when creating profiles where I can set the black point in terms of CMYK. I can also keep the black ink dominant in the mix which helps.
