Default Attn HP 9800 owners....do you have this problem?

When I try to print films I try to print at "Max DPI"....I get an error message that says Printer does not have enough memory. Is there a memory stick or something in the printer that can be upgraded? I cannot print films dark enough and I'm about ready to throw this brand new printer in the trash.
Any help would be appreciated.

I use to have this printer and I threw it away for the reason that the dots kept smearing . . .either way I got great and dark prints when I slowed it down. . . . meaning that I switch paper settings to transparency and photo quality.

Switched because I was throwing away more film than I was printing . . . but loved the option of a 13x19

I use an HP Deskjet 9800 for testing film positive dry times, durability, and relative ink opacity, alongside the 1319 color output for some of our brochures and general desktop printing.

It makes excellent line art film positives.
But, I don't think there's RIP software available for the 9800 that manages tone pattern/dot art output, if desired.

That may very much be what causes the memory error. It's also why printing file-saved dot patterns would not have correct ink deposit control and tend to smear shadow tones.

Epson's tend to be better supported for this size application, and there are several RIP's to choose from to install. You can also convert many of their printers over to Black-only ink, if it's to be dedicated to film positive output only.

I have been using an HP 9800 for some time now without any problems. When printing positives I set it to presentation/ transparencies/ best quality. I have never had any error messages about memory or anything else for that matter.
Also, for printing halftones Ghost Script works excellent with this printer, it is free and there is a great tutorial on how to use it (available on this forum).
